Free tickets for a screening of the Disney classic WALL-E at Watersmeet, Rickmansworth, are being offered ahead of Global Recycling Day.
Three Rivers District Council is hosting the free screening on Sunday 12 March and member of the council’s Climate Change Team will be on hand before and after to answer questions and offer support on what residents and businesses can do to waste less and recycle more, as well as discuss other areas of sustainability.
Global Recycling Day, on Saturday 18 March, was first held in 2018 to help recognise and celebrate the importance recycling plays in preserving resources and securing the future of the planet.
Phil Williams, Lead Member for Environmental Services, Climate Change and Sustainability said: “We know many young people are already engaged in conversations and actions to tackle the climate crisis and particularly issues around waste and recycling, and hope that this film goes on to inspire them and their families to think more about the waste they produce, and what we are all leaving behind on our planet.”
WALL-E follows a solitary robot on a future, uninhabitable, deserted Earth in 2805, left to clean up piles of rubbish left behind by humans. He is visited by a probe, a robot called EVE, with whom he falls in love and pursues across the galaxy.
Three Rivers has a fantastic record when it comes to recycling rates having been in the top three authorities in England for the past three years, recycling more than 60% of their household waste. The council is currently focusing on waste reduction with campaigns such as their new #WorthSaving food waste reduction campaign, reusable nappies , and sustainable period products .
Put the date in your diary, book free ticket through the Watersmeet website , and invite friends, family, colleagues to come along.
