Two award-winning parks in Three Rivers have retained their status as some of the country's best.

On Tuesday 16 July, environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy confirmed that Leavesden Country Park and the Rickmansworth Aquadrome kept their Green Flag status – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

In addition to retaining its Green Flag status, Leavesden Country Park also kept the Green Heritage Site status accreditation, which is supported by Historic England, for the management of the park’s particular historic features.

Emma Sheridan, Three Rivers District Council’s Associate Director for Environment, said: “Leavesden Country Park and Rickmansworth Aquadrome retaining their Green Flag status is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to ensure they keep our parks of a high quality.

“Our green spaces are very important to us and our residents, and that is why the council is committed to ensuring our parks and open spaces maintain this high standard so residents can continue to enjoy and relax at these places.

“I am extremely pleased that Leavesden Country Park and Rickmansworth Aquadrome have won yet again the Green Flag Award and I am sure our officers and volunteers are very proud of this achievement.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Three Rivers District Council on achieving a Green Flag Award.

“These are vital green spaces for communities in Three Rivers to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.”
