Three Rivers Encourages Fostering

To mark this year’s Foster Care Fortnight (May 11 to 24), Three Rivers District Council is appealing for foster carers to come forward. During these challenging times, children more than ever need the love and support of a foster carer.

This year’s theme for the Foster Care Fortnight campaign, run annually by The Fostering Network, is This Is Fostering.

Sara Bedford, Leader of the Council, added: “Through knowing a number of footer carers and also adults who benefitted from being fostered as children, I know that fostering can change lives for both the children and the families that care for them. At this time it is more important than ever that as many children as possible can enjoy a safe and loving family environment. I am thankful for all the foster carers who have opened their hearts and homes to transform the lives of our younger residents.”

Melanie, one of the foster carers in Three Rivers, said: “It is so rewarding to nurture and look after the children. Yes, there may be some challenges to overcome, but the love and support you get enables you to tackle and overcome these hurdles. During these uncertain times, it is important that if people can foster and give children a loving home then please do so.”

From full time fostering to offering short sleepover breaks, there are many different types of fostering because children in care have varying situations and needs.

Any resident wanting to become a foster carer must be over 21 years old and have at least one spare room at home. There are many different types of fostering and foster carers can choose what is right for them and their family.
