In response to the challenges of the colder season Three Rivers District Council, in collaboration with the Small Acts of Kindness charity, is taking part in a heartwarming initiative.

The initiative, now in its fifth year, targets the elderly, who often face the brunt of the winter chill. This year, they're distributing Warm in Winter gift bags, tailored to support older people in the community.

The gift bags include essential items such as fleece blankets, thermal hats, gloves, and nourishing items like hot drinks, soup, and porridge. These are complemented by an information pack filled with resources for additional support and opportunities to engage in local activities.

Each year, Small Acts of Kindness aim to distribute as many as 10,000 Warm in Winter gift bags to provide much-needed comfort.

The council is reaching out to residents for their involvement. Community members can play a vital role by nominating family, friends or neighbours who would benefit from these gift bags.

This programme is more than just about providing physical warmth; it's about fostering a sense of community and connection. The council, along with Small Acts of Kindness, are keen to ensure that isolated individuals receive not only these bags but also a link to local groups and activities that can help alleviate loneliness.

Rebecca Young, Head of the Strategy and Partnerships team, commented on the initiative: "Our collaboration with Small Acts of Kindness in distributing these Warm in Winter bags has become a valued tradition. Especially this year, as the chill of winter coincides with financial pressures, these bags could be a lifeline for those over 55 struggling to stay warm at home. We urge anyone in need, or those who know someone in need, to reach out to us for support."

In addition to the Winter Bags, the council staff have also volunteered their time packing 'Bags of Kindness'.
