Three Rivers town centres are resilient as the latest figures show it outperforms the national average shop vacancy rate.

Three Rivers District Council officers conducted a shop survey in September 2024. The results show that the proportion of vacant units in the main retail centres across the district has decreased by 1.5% since 2023.

The vacancy rate currently stands at 6.3%, less than half the 13.9% national average.

According to the survey, there are 15 vacant units in Rickmansworth, four in Croxley Green, one in Abbots Langley, Chorleywood and South Oxhey and none in Mill End and Maple Cross.

Cllr Louise Price, Lead Member for Infrastructure and Economic Development, said: “Businesses across the country have been hit with hard times recently with the pandemic, soaring costs and the decline of the High Street. That’s why it is excellent to see that Three Rivers is thriving as a place to do business that welcomes a wide range of businesses and shops that meet our residents’ shopping needs.”

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, added: “I’m delighted to see business activity in Three Rivers continue to strengthen and I look forward to seeing more businesses open in the area.

“The High Street is the beating heart of the district. By supporting your local shops, you can make a big difference and help to keep Three Rivers buzzing and prevent further vacant retail units in the town.”
