Register to vote for the July by-election

A by-election for the Three Rivers District Council ward of Rickmansworth Town will take place on 4 July - the same day of the general election - following the resignation of former district councillor David Raw.

Residents must be on the electoral register to be able to vote. With the registration deadline on Tuesday 18 June, those who are not registered at their current address are being reminded to make sure they are registered before it is too late. It takes just five minutes to apply online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If you intend to vote in person at the polling station you will need to show photo-ID before you are given any ballot papers.

Voters may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable and can use any of the following:

• Passport
• Driving licence (including provisional license)
• Blue badge
• Certain concessionary travel cards
• Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
• Biometric Immigration document
• Defence identity card
• Certain national identity cards

Anyone who doesn’t already have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline for applications for Voter Authority Certificates to be received by the Council’s Electoral Services Team is 5pm on 26 June 2024.

You can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.ukif you are not able to complete the online form then residents can complete a paper application form and send this to the Three Rivers District Council electoral services team:

There has also been a recent change in the rule around applications for proxy and postal voting.
