Cllr Raj Khiroya re-elected as Chair for Three Rivers District Council
Chorleywood South and Maple Cross councillor Raj Khiroya will continue to take on the Chair mantle for Three Rivers District Council.
Cllr Khiroya was sworn in for his second consecutive year as the district’s first citizen for the 2024/25 municipal year after members unanimously agreed at the Annual Council Meeting on Tuesday 21 May.
The Chair’s role is a-political, presiding over Full Council meetings and officially representing the council at public engagements for a year.
Cllr Tony Humphries will continue to serve as Cllr Khiroya’s Vice-Chair for the municipal year.
Cllr Khiroya became chair in December 2023 following the resignation of Phil Williams. During that time, he raised £4,500 for his chosen charities Ovacome – an ovarian cancer charity in partnership with Target Ovarian – and local charity Friends of Prostate Sufferers, which supports people with prostate cancer.
Cllr Khiroya was born in Uganda and came to the UK in 1969. He has lived in Chorleywood for 38 years with his wife Tanuja and has two adult sons who were both educated at a local school.
He currently represents the Chorleywood South and Maple Cross ward as a district councillor and has served as a Chorleywood Parish councillor since 2008.
Cllr Khiroya said: “Being Chair of Three Rivers District Council is a great honour and I am delighted to be able to continue in the role for another year.
“It has been a privilege to represent the council at events and getting to meet as many of our wonderful residents, local charities and voluntary organisations as possible and I look forward to continuing this.
“I am proud to have raised a reasonable sum for my chosen charities during my short time as Chair last year and I look forward to raising even more. I will be announcing my new chosen charities that I will be supporting in due course.”
