New hub offers employment, health and wellbeing support services

Employment guidance, skills development, health and wellbeing advice and support are just some of the services soon to be on offer in Abbots Langley when a new community hub opens its doors.
The new Hillside Community Hub, based at Watford Community Housing’s Hillside Hub, in School Mead, will provide drop-in facilities on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The facility is a partnership project between Three Rivers District Council, Ascend, Watford and Three Rivers Trust and Watford Community Housing and brings together a range of outreach services including Citizens Advice, Herts Mind Network and Three Rivers Healthy Hub.
Julie Wittich, Interim Group Director of Operations at Watford Community Housing, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with our partners to provide this space so that a range of vital services and support can be made available to people in the local community, including many of our customers. As a community gateway housing association, we’re committed to making a real difference and helping to build strong, cohesive and prosperous communities through partnership working.”
On Tuesdays residents can access the Ascend Job Club or enrol on Ascend skill development courses. Wednesdays provides a range of courses and activities to improve health and wellbeing or information to access one to one support via the Three Rivers Healthy Hub. Thursday afternoons will see a drop-in service being available for people experiencing or wishing to understand more about domestic abuse. The Domestic Abuse Service provided through Herts Mind Network seeks to increase understanding of domestic abuse and support available.
The project aims to engage and work in partnership with the local community to understand what other needs there are, and how future services can be shaped.
Cllr Sarah Nelmes, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “The pandemic has impacted people in a number of ways, from jobs to relationships, mental health to money struggles. This new hub will pull together a range of employment, health and well-being services under one roof, making it easier for local residents to get access to the support and advice they need in a joined-up way.”
The new hub, which opens on 20 October, has been joint funded by Abbots Langley Parish Council, Three Rivers District Council, Watford and Three Rivers Trust, Watford Community Housing and Hertfordshire County Council.
