Tens of thousands of pounds will be administered by Three Rivers District Council to help local households struggling with the cost-of-living crisis following government funding.

The district council received £55,000 from the fifth round of the government’s Household Support Fund, a fund set up to be allocated to local authorities nationwide to support households unable to pay for necessities, such as food and utility bills.

Most of the funding will be distributed to the council’s frontline partners, such as Rickmansworth Food Bank, South Oxhey Food Bank, Watford Community Housing, Thrive, and others, to provide targeted food, fuel, and energy support.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “Times are tough. Prices for essentials remain high and residents continue to see the cost-of-living crisis put a huge squeeze on their budgets.

“I am pleased to see that we can use this funding to good use and help our most vulnerable households in the district.

“In the last round of the Household Support Fund, the council provided 110 struggling households nutritional food parcels over six months and provided those household support, recipes, advice and affordable healthy eating tips.”
