Three Rivers residents are being warned not to fall for any scam sales of fake garden waste stickers after an incident was reported to the district council.

A scammer has been posing as a council officer, tricking people into buying in cash fake brown bin stickers. The council has been made aware of a recent incident and has reported it to the relevant authorities.

Residents are reminded the council would never sell the garden waste stickers in-person, on the phone, through text or via email.

Subscribing to the fortnightly garden waste service can only be done through the council’s website and can only be paid via direct debit when registering for the service. The sign-up period runs from 1 April to 31 March every year, though you can subscribe at any time of the year.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “We have been made aware that an individual is posing as a council officer and is selling fake garden waste collection service stickers. This is a scam. Please ignore this person and report the incident to the police as soon as possible.”
