The Pride flag was proudly flown over the headquarters of Three Rivers District Council this week ahead of the biggest celebration of the LGBTQ+ community in Hertfordshire.

Members of Three Rivers District Council and Herts Pride raised the flag at Three River House, Rickmansworth, as a display of the council's ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality, ahead of the upcoming Herts Pride event.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “Raising the Pride Progress flag is more than a symbolic gesture; it represents our unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive community where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feels valued and respected. As we approach Herts Pride, it’s important to remember that pride is not just a celebration but also a powerful reminder of the ongoing fight for equality.”

Tyson Martin, founder of Herts Pride and Chair of Hertfordshire Pride Society, added: “Seeing the Pride flag flying high at the council headquarters is a powerful affirmation that our community is seen and supported. It sends a message that Three Rivers is a place where diversity is celebrated, and where everyone can be proud of who they are. This kind of visible support from our local government makes a real difference.”

The flag will remain flying throughout the week leading up to Herts Pride, as the district council continues to promote and support events that champion equality and inclusion for all its residents.
