Closure notice issued after noise disturbance in Hunton Bridge

A venue in Hunton Bridge has been issued with a closure notice this afternoon (Friday 23 July) following a breach of the premises’ licence conditions.

In recent weeks the community have suffered chronic noise disturbance caused by a number of large-scale gatherings at Riverside Mansions, off Old Mill Road, which also resulted in severe parking congestion on the narrow lane and nearby.

In response, the force’s local Community Safety Unit and Three Rivers District Council have worked in partnership to secure a closure notice for this weekend, from 10am on Saturday 24 July through to midnight on Sunday 25 July.

The notice prohibits the venue from holding any events, and if they do so, those involved will be arrested. In the meantime, the licence is being reviewed by the district council.

Sergeant Luke Mitchell, from the Three Rivers Community Safety Unit, said: “The residents of Hunton Bridge have had to endure thumping music, inconsiderate parking and anti-social behaviour from those who have attended the venue, which is unacceptable.

“This premises were originally presented as a wedding venue in the initial application, and the first set of licence conditions reflected that, however it appears that the property is now being used for parties.

“We have held many conversations with the venue’s director however they have so far failed to adhere to the terms of their licence, so we have taken the decision to put a closure notice in place for this weekend to prevent the community being adversely affected.

“There are police resources in place and the local teams have been made aware so they can monitor the location. We are working on a longer-term solution but for this weekend, we are asking residents to report any breaches of the notice to us so we can deal with them appropriately.”

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “Noise disturbance and anti-social behaviour of this sort make life a misery for neighbours. So I am pleased that once again we have been able to take swift and decisive action to stamp it out.”
