William Penn Leisure Centre walking netball class celebrates anniversary
A sports club that brings people of all ages together – at a walking pace – is celebrating its first anniversary.
Three Rivers District Council's walking netball programme will celebrate its first anniversary on Tuesday, January 16. The programme is extremely popular with women over 50 as well as with people that have had health problems and had to give up the sport.
Ellie, 46, had had spinal surgery three years ago and said she “loved walking netball straightaway.”
She added: “For that hour I can set aside all my aches and pains and feel young again.”
Another member, Mel, explained that she used to play, but had to stop when she was 42 because she seemed to be too old to play on the majority of teams.
However, this programme has offered her a chance to play again.
She said: “When I saw this, I knew it was a great way for me to get back into the sport.”
Classes are every Tuesday from 12.30pm to 1.45pm at the William Penn Leisure Centre .
Classes cost £2 per week.
