The story of the Grand Union Canal to be told at the next Seniors’ Forum
The fascinating history of the famous Grand Union Canal – built to improve communications between Birmingham and the Midlands and London – is one of the highlights of the first Three Rivers Seniors’ Forum of the year.
The fascinating history of the famous Grand Union Canal – built to improve communications between Birmingham and the Midlands and London – is one of the highlights of the first Three Rivers Seniors’ Forum of the year.
The forum will return to Rickmansworth School and will feature a multitude of guest speakers as well as live music performed by pupils.
Chris Mitchell, a canal engineer with British Waterways for 24 years, will share the story of the canal and will be joined by an array of other guests speakers. Nikki Phillips of Hertfordshire Police will talk about safety in the home and Liz Burns will talk about UK Armed Forces veterans.
And with spring around the corner it will be a timely opportunity to hear a talk on gardening by green-fingered Flora Garvey.
The forum is organised by Three Rivers District Council. Cllr Keith Martin, the organiser, said: “It’s great to be back for the first event of 2023 with such an array of diverse speakers. Once again I extend an open invitation to all Three Rivers residents of retirement age, to come along and enjoy an afternoon amongst friends which will be full of great entertainment and great talks from fascinating people.
The forum – which was previously known as the Pensioners’ Forum – takes place between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Friday 24 February at Rickmansworth School. Access and parking will be available from 2.15pm. Guests are therefore kindly asked not to arrive before this time.
