Play Rangers comes to Maple Cross

Press ReleaseUpdated: 30 May 2024Leisure, parks and culture

The award-winning Play Rangers scheme for children is open to bookings for this term and is now at an additional location in Maple Cross.

Play Rangers play sessions for children, run by Three Rivers District Council, brings outdoor play to various locations in the district and now Denham Way Playing Fields.

Sessions began on Wednesday 17 April, with two-hour sessions every weekday of the regular term-time. Sessions take place from 4pm to 6pm and parents/children will need to meet by the play area for drop off.

Wednesday sessions will now be held at Denham Way Playing Fields, Maple Cross (WD3 9SP).

Cllr Chris Lloyd, Lead Member for Leisure, said: “We’re regularly looking to find new places to deliver our unique Play Ranger service so that we can give all areas of the district an opportunity to experience outdoor, risky play in a safe environment. The council has invested into Denham Way and the tennis courts, play area, pavilion and skate area have been refurbished so we’re keen to see residents engaging in these fantastic new facilities. This move follows recent switch of location for our Tuesday sessions, now at Stones Orchard in Croxley Green, which has been incredibly successful.”

Also new for 2024-25 is the launch of the Play Ranger Annual Membership scheme. The membership scheme, introduced to sustain and improve the quality of our Play Ranger sessions, is £5 per child, per annum and came into effect after the Easter holidays.

Cllr Lloyd added: “The membership fee will be instrumental in ensuring the sustainability and growth of our Play Ranger program and will enable us to maintain essential resources, provide training for staff, and better serve the community. The booking platform will allow us to monitor and plan for attendances throughout the year to ensure adequate staffing at all sites.

“We want to assure all parents that while there will be an annual membership fee, as previously there will be no additional charges for individual term time and holiday sessions. We firmly believe in the importance of accessible play opportunities for all children in our community,  and parents can get in touch if there is financial difficulty surrounding paying the new fee.”

Any parent in financial difficulty, including those in receipt of Council Tax benefits, should contact: leisure@threerivers.gov.uk
