Herts Pride returns with a bang this year
A chart-topping act is set to perform at the annual Herts Pride #TogetherAsOne event this year in celebration of the county’s LGBTQ+ community.
British R&B girl group (The) Honeyz is set to dazzle the audience with their top hits from the late 90s, such as “Love of a Lifetime” and “Never Let You Down”, at Cassiobury Park in Watford.
They will not only be the stars keeping the crowd entertained. This year, Watford’s own Clare Cordell, who was on the Voice UK 2022, will be joining in on the fun for her first time at Herts Pride.
Herts Pride promises to be bigger and better than ever before with various market stalls, food stalls, and a community marquee to get access to information or advice from several statutory and voluntary organisations.
There will also be a funfair and a Herts Pride Dog Show for our four-legged friends to take part in.
Tyson Martin, Herts Pride Event Director said: “The Pride movement continues to highlight the persecution and injustices that many LGBTQ+ people continue to experience across the world.
“In the UK we have come a long way in LGBTQ+ equality such as protected rights in the workplace, service delivery and same sex marriage, though unfortunately we do continue to face discrimination, prejudice, and harassment here in the UK. Across the world, in some countries, we are seeing people who identify as LGBTQ+ being imprisoned or killed, just for being who they are and loving who they love.
“Although social attitudes in the UK are changing for the good, we should not be naive to the fact that LGBTQ+ people continue to face barriers and there is still a long way to go!
“I would like to thank our sponsors for supporting Herts Pride 2023 and I look forward to seeing as many people joining in on the celebrations this year."
Cllr Sarah Nelmes, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, one of the event's sponsors, said: “I am always excited and happy to see the council continue to sponsor this fantastic event that celebrates our amazing diverse communities while also highlighting the discrimination that some people sadly still face today.
“Herts Pride is an event that just keeps getting better and better every year and is a fun-filled, great day out with delicious food and amazing acts to boot.”
Herts Pride 2022 takes place on Saturday 19 August in Cassiobury Park, Watford, from 12pm to 10pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or bought on the day. Attendees are given an event wristband at entry.
