As part of Volunteers’ Week 2023 Huwaydah Malik (pictured below), the new Community Voluntary Service (CVS) Lead for Three Rivers, writes about her role in the district and the importance of volunteers and volunteering.

It is impossible to overstate the important role volunteers play in our society. Volunteers come from all walks of life, are of all ages and help society in many different ways therefore playing a vital role in the running of our local community. Within Three Rivers we have volunteers, in various roles from befriending, community drivers, digital inclusion champions, garden assistants, shoppers, tree planters, trustees, events coordinators and much more.

I started my role as the Three Rivers CVS lead for Watford & Three Rivers Trust just over a month ago. My role exists to support voluntary sector organisations and, we can support organisations with:

· Registration and formation of voluntary sector organisations

· Funding support

· Business planning

· Volunteer recruitment

· Training

We also help charities across Three Rivers area exert greater influence by representing and championing the sector in forums, helping groups individually to promote the needs of their members and by helping groups come together to have a louder voice.

Volunteering allows individuals to connect to their community and make it a better place. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference to the lives of people and local communities.

W3RT hosts Golden Volunteer, a dedicated volunteer recruitment platform for local voluntary organisations in Three Rivers to use to promote voluntary opportunities and also for individuals to register to the opportunities.
