Learn about the rich biodiversity and how species thrive at the popular Rickmansworth Aquadrome later this month.

Residents and visitors have a chance to discover the various species that call the 41-hectare nature reserve home at an exciting ecology event called 'Nature in the Aquadrome', hosted by Three Rivers District Council, on Monday 21 October at 7pm to 8:30pm.

The council has commissioned surveys to better understand what lives in the Aquadrome, including habitats, bats, beetles, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. It also includes a new technique of monitoring called eDNA. The results from these surveys will inform this event and we are excited to share what we have learned.

This includes signs of feeding from water voles, multiple species of bats and three species of shrew.

From bats to badgers, this is a great opportunity to explore the ecological significance of the Aquadrome and gain some knowledge into how we can look after our natural surroundings.

The event will be hosted at Batchworth Canal Centre’s Education Centre. Parking is not available on site, please refer to https://rwt.org.uk/contact-us/.

Cllr Jon Tankard, Lead Member for Climate Change and Sustainability, said: “The Aquadrome is a unique nature reserve with rich biodiversity and interesting wildlife.

“We want to learn as much as we can about the wildlife and the biodiversity that live on the site to help us make informed decisions, and we want residents and visitors to join us on this journey. I urge anyone interested in nature or the Aquadrome to join this exciting event.”

This event has been made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery Players, we have been able to offer this memorable engagement opportunity for the community to enjoy.
