Three Rivers District Council has reluctantly increased some of its charges such as hire fees and green waste collections fees in order to cover increased costs in those areas owing to inflation and higher fuel and staff costs.

Three Rivers District Council has reluctantly increased some of its charges such as hire fees and green waste collections fees in order to cover increased costs in those areas owing to inflation and higher fuel and staff costs.

Where possible it has held fee increases to minimum and will next year be reviewing others.

The move will ensure its annual budget is balanced when it is set in February.

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, the Council Leader, said: “The council is facing the same rising costs as our residents and businesses, however we will only be allowed to increase council tax by 3% so we must ensure where possible any income helps covers the cost of services for those using them.

“We want to protect core services for residents whilst still providing discretionary services such as the garden waste collection and support for less well-off residents and the most vulnerable in our community who are hardest hit by the cost of living crisis.”
