Breast cancer awareness event coming to Three Rivers

Press ReleaseUpdated: 27 April 2023Community and living

An ongoing programme aiming to raise awareness and help residents cut their risk of developing cancer is continuing next month with a focus on breast cancer.

The next information session - called Time to Check - will be at the South Oxhey Healthy Hub in Oxhey Library. Everyone will be able to get information about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and healthcare professionals will be there to offer advice and guidance including an opportunity to learn about breast screening with a question and answer session.

The monthly events and workshops, hosted by Three Rivers District Council, provide residents with advice on how to spot the signs and symptoms of different cancers and the small lifestyle changes they can make to reduce the risks of developing the disease.

Emma Sheridan, the council’s Head of Community Partnerships, said: “We know that early diagnosis and prompt treatment are so vital in the fight against cancer. This event is all about helping to raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer, and to help increase understanding of the huge difference that small changes towards a more healthy lifestyle, combined with participation in screening programmes, can make in preventing cancer and improving outcomes. I strongly encourage everyone to come along and find out more, early detection saves lives.”

The programme is part of a wider health inequalities project looking to raise cancer awareness and increase uptake of cancer screening. Healthy Hubs are a partnership initiative delivered by the district council and funded by Hertfordshire County Council Public Health.

The  Time to Check breast cancer awareness event will take place at South Oxhey Healthy Hub, Oxhey Library, Bridlington Road, South Oxhey, on Thursday 4 May between 1pm and 4pm.
