Children in Three Rivers and Watford learned how to keep safe and well at a range of interactive safety workshops.

The Crucial Crew event was funded by Three Rivers District Council and Connecting Three Rivers (The Local Strategic Partnership). The event, hosted by Watford Football Club who provided the venue, was arranged by Child Safety Media. It included a variety of safety education workshops covering a range of important issues including personal safety, internet safety, knife crime, fire safety as well as promoting health and wellbeing.

Between 1 – 9 July, more than 600 children from local primary schools were invited to Watford FC’s Vicarage Road Stadium to take part in the sessions. These were held by a variety of local agencies including Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, Watford FCs Community Sports and Education Trust, School Nurses and East of England Ambulance Service. Sessions were designed to be engaging and interactive and included a hands-on CPR experience, a fire hazard spotting task, discussions around online gaming safety and video presentations showing the consequences of knife crime.

Officers from Three Rivers District Council’s Community Safety Team, as well as The Chair of Three Rivers District Council, Cllr Stephen King, Deputy Leader of the Council Cllr Sarah Nelmes and Cllr Andrew Scarth attended a session to witness firsthand the valuable learning opportunities available to the children.

Cllr Sarah Nelmes said: “As Chair of Connecting Three Rivers, I am proud that we have contributed to such a meaningful learning experience for the young people of Three Rivers. The children who attended are at a crucial age, transitioning from primary school to secondary, and it is fantastic to see them come together to learn valuable safety tips in a fun and engaging way.”

Cllr Stephen King said: “It was brilliant to see the children learning the importance of safety and well-being in an interactive way. I would like to thank everyone involved for putting together the event, including all the local agencies who delivered the engaging and informative sessions.”
